The segment's products often represent the nal stages in many value-adding chains within BASF's Verbund approach to integration. This approach allows the Colorants & Finishing Products segment to purchase many of its raw materials from within BASF, thereby generating eciencies in logistics and savings in energy, transportation, purchasing and infrastructure costs. BASF uses these eciencies and savings to achieve cost leadership for many of the products in the segment, particularly the acrylic acidbased products of the segment's Dispersions division. The key elements of the segment's success are developing products and application technologies tailored to the specic requirements of customers and better meeting customer needs by establishing and expanding manufacturing plants and application development centers in regions where customers are active. BASF is also investing capital in highly ecient plants to reduce production costs. Close customer relationships are particularly important to the segment for the development of innovative customized products and application systems. The divisions comprising the Colorants & Finishing Products segment and their principal products are: Colorants, for example, clindamycin uti.
These mechanisms can be summarised as i ; the dose related d-sle is produced by drugs acting on cellular membrane with release of macromolecules in altered form or in immunological amount ii ; most of the drugs producing dose related six are aromatic compounds and even a poor immunogen can be made more immunogenic by addition of simple aromatic substitutes. 19. Patients treated with Vancomycin were examined. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons has issued an advisory statement with the following recommendation: Vancomycin should be reserved for the treatment of serious infection with beta-lactam-resistant organisms or for treatment of infection in patients with life -threatening allergy to beta-lactam antimicrobials.18-20 Similarly, the Hospital Infection Control Advisory Committee recommends: 21 "Cefazolin provides adequate coverage for many clean-contaminated operations. If a patient cannot safely receive a cephalosporin because of allergy, a reasonable alternative for gram negative coverage is aztreonam. However, an agent such as clindamycin or metronidazole should also be included to ensure anaerobic coverage." Use of Vancomycin prophylactically in combination with cefazolin is not more effective over the use of cefazolin alone.22-24 There remains substantial inappropriate use of vancomycin.25, 26 More appropriate use does yield considerable cost savings.27 The formulary can be changed to reduce the inappropriate use of Vancomycin.12, 28 All patients with Vancomycin prescriptions should have some indication of infection and should have a culture and sensitivity test. They should have elevated white blood cell counts.29 Patients on Vancomycin were compared to those without in terms of their white blood cell count Figure 15 ; . Note that for patients with Vancomycin, the white blood count mostly followed the same values compared to patients without Vancomycin.

Spectrometry 3, 13, 14, ; and capillary gas chromatography-mass spectrometry GC-MS ; 11, 16 ; . A limitation with some of these reported approaches is that the level of quantification is not sufficiently low to obtain the minimum required performance limit of 0.3 g L for CAP residues in the food product of animal origin set by the European Commission 5 ; . For this reason it was necessary to develop and validate analytical strategies which are capable of quantitatively confirming the identity of low levels 0.3 g L ; of CAP in milk. The method reported in this paper were originally developed in response to a requirement for the determination of CAP residues in milk. Validation of the confirmatory method was performed according EU criteria 4 ; . This includes the determination of decision limit and detection capability and associated data such as uncertainty and cutivate.
VIRBAC CORPORATION INTRODUCES CONVENIENT FORMULATION OF CLINDAMYCIN Antibiotic is First Veterinary Tablet Formulation for Dogs in the United States FORT WORTH, TX, January 8, 2004 Virbac Corporation NASDAQ: VBACE ; , a leading companion animal health company, announced today the introduction of Clintabs clinxamycin hydrochloride ; Tablets, the first veterinary cljndamycin tablet formulation for dogs in the United States. Market research indicates that veterinarians generally prefer tablet formulations to capsule formulations since they are easy for dogs to swallow and for pet owners to administer. "Clintabs offer veterinarians an alternative to capsules when prescribing clindamycin, " said Stephane Villemin, Director of New Products for Virbac Corporation. "We're very pleased to add Clintabs to our growing line of pharmaceutical veterinary products, which will be marketed by our existing salesforce." Clintabs are available in convenient 25mg, 75mg and 150mg tablet presentations and are used to treat infections of the oral cavity, skin, and bone. In addition to the tablets, Virbac is also introducing Clinsol clindamycin hydrochloride ; Liquid, a liquid formulation of clindamycin for use in dogs and cats. Virbac enters the $11.5 million clindamycin market with immediate shipments of Clintabs and Clinsol through established veterinary distribution channels. "Clindamycin, which is recognized by veterinarians as a leading antibiotic for dental infections, complements Virbac's existing C.E.T. dental product portfolio and clearly positions the company as the leader in the companion animal oral health market, " said Mike Eldred, Director of Business Development. YS004-04 Reduced frontal activity in badly performing patients : Fact or artifact ? Nick Ramsey, Medical University Utrecht, Dept. of Psychiatry, Heidelberglaan 100, 3584 CX Utrecht, Netherlands, Email: nramsey azu.nl P. Welles, R. Kahn Objective: Reduced frontal brain-activity observed in patients is typically associated with reduced performance on cognitive tasks, and is interpreted as revealing dysfunction of specific brainstructures. Reduced performance may however reflect reduced engagement in the task, rather than full engagement with reduced yield which is implicitly assumed in image dataanalysis. One way to solve this problem is to adjust the analysis input function to match performance. Is frontal activity then still reduced in patients? Method: A performance-adjusted design was applied in a `deductive reasoning' fMRI experiment with 20 schizophrenic patients and 20 controls. Results: Patients made 10% more errors than controls. Whereas brainactivity patterns were normal in medicated patients, an overall increase of activity was found in medication-free patients. Conclusions: Efficiency of task-specific brain-activity was reduced in patients. Brain-activity but not efficiency was normalized with medication. Disagreement with reports of reduced frontal activity may be the result of correction for performance differences.
